Resident Ducks

Bred for the meat industry and saved from a duck farm, rescued as small fluffy chicks, these ducklings quickly grew up! Now we have six lovely full-grown ducks that live with us at the sanctuary. Paul and Ringo are our two runner ducks who are much taller, the four boys are referred to as the ducklings as they are a little difficult to tell apart!

At the sanctuary, you can always count on the ducks spending the whole day together, they are never apart, although they sometimes tend to fight and chase each other (it’s all fun and games really). When at the sanctuary you can hear the ducks chatting from miles away, they often have a lot to say, it always seems as though they are planning on what to do next, as where one goes, they all go!

The ducks’ favourite daily activity involves swimming in their ecosystem pond (which they share with their three geese pals). The pond was completed last year to accommodate wild species which thrive around bodies of water. The ducks also enjoy grazing on the grassy banks and napping in the sun. The ducks favourite snacks include lettuce and of course, they are a big fan of feeding time!

When it comes to night time the ducks can be quite stubborn, they love their pond so much all they want to do is spend the night swimming around although the fox activity in the area is very high so it’s best for them to spend bed time in the coop.
