In memory of Hazel💚
A sad update - Hazel the goat was put to sleep a few weeks ago and is no longer with us.
For some time now, we’ve been closely monitoring Hazel’s mobility as she struggled with her legs, and she had regular pain relief for this. We also made sure she received extra meals to help maintain her weight. Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, she has been steadily declining, losing interest in her food and struggling to get up at times. At 18 years old, Hazel had an incredible life, but we knew her condition wouldn’t improve, so we made the difficult decision to let her go.
Many of you met Hazel during tours or events, when she would greet visitors... and follow to see if you had snacks! She had a feisty side and was not afraid to tell the sheep if she wasn’t happy with them, especially when they were in her bedroom (yes, she has her own room here!).
Hazel was so loved by our volunteers who gave her dedicated care. Hours were spent collecting and hanging fresh browse for her to enjoy, making sure her bedroom was clean and welcoming, giving out all her favourite snacks and grooming her.
Her last few years were filled with love and surrounded by people who adored and spoiled her. We all miss her.
Our wonderful volunteers have shared their favourite pictures of Hazel. We hope you enjoy viewing them and reminiscing about the special moments Hazel had with us at the sanctuary💚
