Olive’s surgery

You might remember Olive as one of the first sheep that came to live at the sanctuary as a lamb back in 2021, so she kept her long tail as we don’t band lambs tails. It’s unnecessary and cruel.

When the sheep had their most recent shear, it was noticed that Olive didn’t have full motion of her tail. Because she now couldn’t lift her tail fully to urinate, she was urinating straight onto her tail which was causing sores that could lead to complicated infections - these wouldn’t be able to be treated and it would be a vicious cycle.

After consulting with our vets, it was decided that the best option was to remove some of Olive’s tail. She had surgery and we are so pleased with how well she coped with this and the healing process. All is going well and she is making a full recovery!

We love all of our sheep and feel so lucky to get to have friendships with them. The trust we have built with them means we are more able to check them over and do their regular health care such as vaccinations, hoof trimming, fly striking and general checks.

We would like to thank our monthly donators who have helped us to fund Olive’s surgery and treatment.
